Training standards: a safe path for future psychotherapists and vulnerable children and young people

Predavanje bo potekalo v angleškem jeziku. / The lecture will be held in English.

Vsem pristopom so skupni zavezanost pravicam in potrebam otrok in mladih v skladu s Konvencijo Združenih narodov o otrokovih pravicah (UNCRC) in Svetovno zdravstveno organizacijo (WHO), etična kakovost oskrbe in medkulturna občutljivost ter spoštovanje kompleksnih potreb posameznega otroka v kontekstu, v katerem živi, se uči in igra.

The European Interdisciplinary Association for Therapeutic Services for Children and Young People (EIATSCYP) was founded by Ken Evans and came about after discussions with other professionals about the lack of therapeutic services for children and young people across Europe. There were also no regulations and standards for training, and there was no support for institutes to develop training programmes.

I have been a member of EIATSCYP since 2011. We have gone through various stages of development as an organisation. EIATSCYP has worked with partners across Europe to develop standards for education, training, practise and research that promote quality and standards in contemporary therapeutic practise with children and young people.

The standards are designed to ensure the safety and effectiveness of a range of approaches. Common to all approaches is a commitment to the rights and needs of children and young people in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), the World Health Organisation (WHO), ethical quality of care and cross-cultural sensitivity, and an appreciation of the complex needs of an individual child in the contexts in which they live, learn and play.

I will represent the standards for the education of professionals who work or collaborate with children and young people that we have developed over the last two years. We set out to take into account the diversity of countries and their capabilities and to develop recommendations to support and guide organisations in training professionals who work with children and young people in a wider context. The educational standards have also been confirmed by the organisations’ members.
